Kauai, nicknamed "The Garden Island" is the oldest of the inhabited Hawaiian Islands, as well as the greenest and the wettest. This is also the site of the first recorded contact between Westerners and the native inhabitants of Hawaii, when Captain James Cook first arrived in Waimea Bay in 1778.
